This is a recording of the first movement of Pantulan, performed by the Lightbulb Ensemble, an octet of percussionist-composers based in Oakland, CA. We recorded it at the Lightbulb studio on July 22, 2013.

The title, which means “echo” or “reflection” in Indonesian, refers to the process of offsetting parts on like instruments, as if played in an echo chamber or through a digital delay device. The composite explores the resulting interrelationships between these offset parts, as well as the overall texture of the resulting ensemble sound.
